Dr. Dadit Gunarwanto Hidayat has been in higher education civic engagement for over a decade. He has been uniquely situated as an academic and nonprofit advocate through various community-academic partnerships. Having experience on both sides of the partnership has shaped his approach to managing the power dynamics of everyone involved for impactful collaboration that is deeply rooted in diverse ideas. Dadit’s work has focused on the interconnection between community engagement and science learning. He believes that community engagement is not, and should not be a mere extension of, or an add-on to, science learning. Community engagement is fundamentally at the core of every teaching and research activity, producing actionable directions and advancing social change. A first-generation immigrant from Indonesia, Dr. Hidayat is a two-time Badger, having earned a Ph.D. in Environment and Resources from the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies and an M.S. in Urban and Regional Planning.
