Dr. Hwasung Yeom is Associate Scientist in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. His expertise encompasses development of a wide range of surface coating technologies and low-temperature additive manufacturing as well as experimental evaluation of thermo-mechanical properties, advanced characterizations of the engineered materials for radiation effects, high temperature oxidation, and cladding behavior under accident conditions. Dr. Yeom has participated in industry-led research projects focused on development of advanced fuel cladding with Framatome and Westinghouse Electric Company, and in multiple DOE-NE funded programs (NEET, NEUP, NSUF).
Dr. Yeom is a member of American Nuclear Society (ANS) and the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS), and is a member of TMS’s Nuclear Materials Committee. He has over 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, book chapters, and technical reports. He has served as an invited reviewer for DOE-NE’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programs, DOE’s CINR proposals, and DOE’s Nuclear Science User Facilities (NSUF) proposals.
