Profile Summary

Dr. Jun Wang is research scientist in the Department of Engineering Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is working on several research projects funded by U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) about nuclear power plant safety technologies, especially the development of accident tolerant fuels, passive cooling, and FELX engineered systems technology.

Dr. Jun Wang’s research interests mainly focus on nuclear reactor thermal hydraulics and safety, including: nuclear power plant safety evaluation, accident tolerant fuels/cladding/coating, two-phase flow experiment and simulation, critical heat flux prediction, severe accident analysis, computational fluid dynamics, deep learning, data science for engineering, STEM education.

Dr. Wang has over 50 publications of books, peer-reviewed journal articles, conference articles, and government reports, at the areas of nuclear safety, accident tolerant fuels, and two-phase flow experiments. One of the articles is awarded as one of twenty-five most often cited articles at the journal Progress in Nuclear Energy. Dr. Wang’s work gets over 190 citations, with h-index 8.

Dr. Wang services as editor for Elsevier Nuclear Energy Book Program; associate editor for the journal Frontiers in Energy Research Nuclear Energy; editor on board for the journals Open Engineering, Experimental and Computational Multiphase Flow, and World Journal of Nuclear Science and Technology. Dr. Wang also provide referee service for over 20 journals and conferences. Dr. Wang is member of American Nuclear Society, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and American Association for the Advancement of Science.
