Xiao Kuang is an Assistant Professor at the Polymer Engineering Center in Mechanical Engineering Department.
Xiao Kuang earned his Ph.D. degree in the University of Chinese Academy of Science (2016) and had his postdoc training at Georgia Institute of Technology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital & Harvard Medical School. He leads the Adaptive Materials and Advanced Manufacturing Lab, focusing on understanding and developing transformative manufacturing technologies for functional soft materials and (bio)systems. Through experiments, theoretical analysis, and computational tools, the lab studies the functional responses of (bio)polymeric systems to external stimuli (such as heat, light, chemical, mechanical, and acoustic fields) and establish high-quality synthesis-process-structure-property relationships. The objective is to guide the design of multifunctional composite (bio)materials and innovate advanced manufacturing technologies. By working at the intersection of materials, manufacturing and medicine, the research extends to broad applications, including aerospace, soft robots, biomedical devices, drug delivery, and tissue engineering, to solve societal challenges in sustainability and health.
