Profile Summary

Our interdisciplinary team (students, post-docs, professionals, collaborators, communities, citizens, and myself) are working on research/education in environmental/ecological/fluid flows and water resources science/engineering interacting with human activities under changing climate. A trans-disciplinary approach with nature-based solutions is employed to address grand challenges and emerging issues in a variety of topics including

• Exploration/understanding, risk assessment/communication, and adaptation/mitigation for meteotsunamis, freak waves, dangerous currents, and extreme waves

• Enhancement, rehabilitation, and Restoration of streams, rivers, lakes, and wetlands

• Coastal resilience and  sustainability: erosion risk assessment, innovative solutions, and sustainable management for bluff, shoreline, and nearshore environment

• Hydrological and hydraulic modeling & monitoring for sustainable urban planning and development

• Coastal flood risk and resilience assessments for urban and coastal areas

• Adaptive management and phosphorus reduction for watershed restoration and protection

• Risk assessment and sustainable remediation for contaminated sediments and aquatic debirs

• Lake hydrodynamic & ecosystem responses to weather-related episodic events and changing climates

• Clean and clear water initiatives & innovations

• Cyberinfrastructures or observatories for environmental monitoring
