The nuclear assessment has traditionally been the strength of the University of Wisconsin (UW) fusion research program. We collaborated with research teams at national institutions and international organizations and participated in 70 magnetic and inertial fusion projects. The majority of the research projects are large national design efforts aimed at developing environmentally attractive conceptual designs for future fusion power plants and experimental test facilities. The success of our nuclear effort led to the recognition of the UW Fusion Technology Institute (FTI) as the nationwide leader in the nuclear field. The hundreds of publications in fusion neutronics, shielding and activation areas reflect our involvement in numerous projects.
